MASCOTTE, Fla. – A central Florida sheriff's deputy fatally shot a man who authorities say pointed an assault rifle at him during a home invasion.
The shooting occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday in Lake County, a rural community northwest of Orlando.
Lake County Sheriff's Cpl. Fred Jones says a woman inside the house called 911 and said men with guns were inside. When deputies arrived, the suspect came out the door and pointed the rifle at a deputy. He fired, hitting the man.
Jones says the man was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. The man didn't have identification on him, so authorities are trying to identify him.
Deputies are searching for two men who left before deputies arrived.
No further details were immediately available.
