A moderate earthquake has hit near U.S. territories of Guam and the Northern Marianas islands, but there were no reports of injury or damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 5.5 temblor struck at 3:39 p.m. Saturday local time. It was centered 40 miles northeast of Hagatna and 100 miles southwest of Saipan in the Northern Marianas at a depth of 90 miles beneath the Pacific Ocean seabed.

The temblor was strongly felt in Saipan.

The territories are situated in the western Pacific region about 3,700 miles from Hawaii.
