BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) A person familiar with the details says Canisius College coach Jim Baron is retiring after a 29-year-coaching career.

An announcement from the school is expected Friday. Baron informed school officials of his decision on Thursday, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the school had not announced the move.

Baron has 462 career wins between four schools, spending the last four at Canisius and bringing stability to what had been a losing program. He spent 11 seasons at Rhode Island and nine at St. Bonaventure before that, winning Atlantic-10 coach of the year four times. He made the NCAA Tournament twice.

Baron has two sons who play hoops professionally outside the United States.
