The New York Jets suffered more than just a loss on their record Sunday. Their top two quarterbacks on the depth chart were also injured in the game, leaving question marks heading into Week 9.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is likely to miss some time with torn ligaments in his thumb, but Geno Smith could be ready to play on Sunday. Bryce Petty would be his backup, though he's in somewhat of a redshirt season as a rookie.

With that said, the Jets will likely look to bring in a veteran quarterback to back up Smith and round out the depth chart if Fitzpatrick is forced to miss an extended period of time. One player the Jets reportedly won't look at is Ryan Mallett, who was recently released by the Houston Texans. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets will look elsewhere if they bring in a quarterback.

Mallett has not only struggled on the field, but he's struggled off it too. He was reportedly late for meetings and practices repeatedly for the Texans, which ultimately led to his release. That's also what will probably steer the Jets away from Mallett, too.
