Seattle Seahawks backup running back Fred Jackson appears to have suffered a high ankle sprain in Monday night's victory over the Detroit Lions.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said on his radio show Tuesday that it's too soon to tell how long the injury would sideline Jackson, who was acquired in a preseason trade with the Buffalo Bills.

Jackson had three carries for 21 yards and two catches for four yards Monday night while serving as a backup to undrafted rookie Thomas Rawls, who was playing in place of an injured Marshawn Lynch.

X-rays on the ankle were negative but Jackson underwent an MRI exam on Tuesday. Carroll said he is hopeful that Lynch will be back in the lineup after missing his first game with the Seahawks due to a hamstring injury.

"It will be important looking to see what happens with Marshawn as he comes back this week," Carroll said.
