The Chicago Bears weren't sure if they'd have quarterback Jay Cutler leading the team into battle in at Soldier Field against the Oakland Raiders in Week 4. He was listed as questionable on the pre-game injury report, making him a game-time decision with a hamstring injury.
Cutler gutted it out and played, though. The veteran passer performed well enough for the Bears to claim their first victory of the season in stunning fashion. With time running out in the fourth quarter, Cutler led the Bears down the field and set up a game-winning field goal.
Guard Matt Slauson, who stepped in to play center after Will Montgomery was injured, was not surprised that his quarterback overcame an injury and led the Bears to a 22-20 win.
"Because he's a beast," Slauson said of Cutler, per Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. "I don't know what it is, I just know he works his tail off."
Cutler is often criticized in the media for his inconsistency at quarterback, which was on display this weekend. Before leading his team on a game-winning drive against the Raiders, he had the offense moving and threw an interception just outside the red zone.
Even so, Cutler hasn't lost his teammates respect and confidence.
"Having him in there, we're just so confident because he's our guy," Slauson said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. "We have full belief in him."
Now 1-3 on the season, the Bears are counting on Cutler to turn things around in Chicago.
