A titan of social media is joining forces with one of the best teams in the NBA to bring even more basketball to the people.

On Tuesday, Facebook announced that it would broadcast its first ever live sporting event -- and said the broadcast will feature LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

On Thursday, as part of NBA TV's NBA Real Training Camp series, Facebook will simulcast Cavs practice live on the NBA TV Facebook page. The practice will also be available on NBA TV and NBA.com.

Sports leagues have investigated the potential of live broadcasts over social media in the past -- MLB, for example, broadcasted select spring training games live on Facebook in 2011, but the streams were limited to viewers who subscribed to MLB's video services. The Cavs practice, then, would be the first live sports broadcast on Facebook made commercially available to the public.
