Geno Smith's future with the New York Jets might be on the ropes.

Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed on Tuesday that Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain the starting quarterback even when the former second-round pick is able to return.

"Ryan will get all the first-team reps," Bowles said.

Fitzpatrick has led the Jets to a 2-0 start and has benefitted from a strong defense.

Smith, who has been sidelined with a broken jaw after receiving a preseason punch from linebacker IK Enemkpali, is under contract through the 2016 season.
