NAPA, Calif. (AP) Oakland Raiders running back Trent Richardson has returned to practice after being taken off the non-football illness list.

Richardson was activated on Thursday after missing most of the first week of training camp recovering from a bout with pneumonia.

Richardson says it was difficult to miss time as he tries to prove he can still be the top back he was projected to be before struggling the past two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.

He was thrown right into the mix for the Raiders, taking second-team snaps in a padded practice in his return to the field. Richardson is looking to cement a spot at running back on Oakland's roster behind starter Latavius Murray.
