Soccer superstar David Beckham and his investment group will likely have to put their proposal to build a pro-soccer stadium in South Florida before the voters, as local leaders say it will require some form of referendum.
The most recent option would have Beckham building the stadium next to the American Airlines Arena.
His first choice, a site at PortMiami, faced overwhelming opposition from the cruise industry.
Beckham released the following statement, "Our principles remain the same today as they did at the beginning. We will privately finance the stadium and pay fair market value for the land. The passion for soccer is growing fast, and we want to make everyone in Miami proud of what we can achieve."
