Glasgow, Scotland (SportsNetwork.com) - Celtic extended its lead atop the Scottish Premier League table to five points on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Dundee United at Celtic Park.
The defending champions entered Saturday's clash riding some nice momentum following a 4-0 thrashing of Dundee United last time out in Scottish Cup play, and things started well for Celtic as Gary Mackay-Steven opened the scoring after 16 minutes.
John Guidetti doubled the lead in the 33rd minute and Jason Denayer added the third tally on the stroke of halftime.
United managed very little in terms of quality offensive chances and suffered its 10th defeat of the season in league play to remain in fourth place in the league with 46 points from 28 matches played.
Celtic has won three straight across all competitions to maintain a comfortable margin atop the table over second-place Aberdeen.
Also in the Scottish top flight on Saturday, Adam Rooney and Stephen McGinn traded goals as Dundee FC and Aberdeen played to a 1-1 draw, while Partick Thistle claimed a 1-0 win over Inverness on the strength of a 84th-minute goal from Steven Lawless.
Michael Gardyne and Craig Curran found the back of the net to lift Ross County to a 2-1 victory against Kilmarnock, and in the day's final match, goals from Brian Graham and Steven Anderson powered St. Johnstone to a 2-0 win over St. Mirren.
