Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder has been named the American League Player of the Week for the period ending April 14.

Fielder hit .632 (12-for-19) with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI in six games. He also drew nine walks and led all left-handed major leaguers in slugging percentage (1.158) and on-base percentage (.733).

This is Fielder's first player of the week award since leaving the National League after the 2011 campaign. He won four NL Player of the Week awards as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Others considered for the honor included Fielder's teammate Anibal Sanchez, Boston's Clay Buchholtz, Houston's Chris Carter and a pair of New York Yankees, Robinson Cano and Hiroki Kuroda.
