Saucier, MI – Corey Pavin bogeyed the final hole Saturday to fall back into a 4-way tie for the lead after two rounds of the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic.
Pavin carded a 5-under 67 to finish two rounds at 8-under-par 136. He was joined there by Roger Chapman (67), Bernhard Langer (65) and Joe Daley (66).
Pavin, who won last year's Allianz Championship, and Chapman, who won two senior majors in 2012, shared the first-round lead with Steve Elkington and Hal Sutton.
Tom Pernice, Jr. and Esteban Toledo both fired 7-under 65s to move into a tie for fifth at minus-7. They were joined there by Gene Sauers (66).
Defending champion Fred Couples carded a 6-under 66 at Fallen Oak Golf Club and is one of four players tied at 6-under-par 138.
Elkington posted a 1-under 71 and is tied for 15th at minus-4, while Sutton managed an even-par 72 and is one of seven players at 3-under-par 141.
Pavin looked like he would run away from the field early on. He birdied the first six holes to jump to 9-under par. He stumbled to bogeys at the seventh and ninth to slide out of the lead.
The former U.S. Ryder Cup captain got one stroke back when he birdied the par-4 10th. Pavin moved back into the lead with a birdie on the par-5 15th. He parred the next two before stumbling to a bogey at the last to slide back into a share of first.
Chapman, who was one group ahead of Pavin, birdied the fifth and seventh to move to minus-5. After six consecutive pars, Chapman birdied the 14th and came right back with an eagle on No. 15 to get to 8-under. The reigning Senior PGA and U.S. Senior Open champion parred the final three to end there.
Langer, who won three times last year, ran off four birdies in a 5-hole span from the second to climb to 5-under. He faltered to a bogey on the par-4 seventh, but bounced with birdies at eight and nine.
Around the turn, Langer birdied the 13th. He parred three in row before a birdie at 17 got him to 8-under.
"We didn't have nearly as much wind as yesterday. Actually there was very little wind, and yesterday was kind of gusty," Langer stated. "At times, there was some and then there was none. So it was a little tricky. Today was great conditions. Nice, overcast day, and golf course is in great condition. The greens are wonderful. Just gotta read them and putt them."
Daley, last year's Senior Players Championship winner, birdied one and two, but gave those strokes back with bogeys at the third and fifth.
The 52-year-old came right back with birdies at six and seven. Around the turn, Daley birdied five of the first seven holes to jump into the lead at minus-9. He stumbled to a bogey at the par-3 17th and parred the last to share the lead.
NOTES: The second round was completed despite a 1-hour, 26-minute weather delay ... Pavin and Daley both have one Champions Tour victory, while Chapman has two and Langer owns 17 tour titles.
