The CEO of Ticketmaster gave four free tickets to a group of 49ers fans who were scammed out of almost $6,000 in a cruel Craigslist scam purportedly by a Ravens fan.
The Mercury News reports diehard 49ers fan Sharon Osgood wired $5,900 to a man on Craigslist who claimed to be selling four tickets to the Super Bowl. Osgood and her boyfriend agreed to wire the money after speaking with the man on the phone and via e-mail.
However, after sending the money they received a package containing a piece of paper with a picture of both Super Bowl quarterbacks on it. The message underneath read: "Enjoy the game!!!! Go Ravens!!! LOL," according to the Mercury News.
"We pooled all our money together to do this so we can go, and then to get scammed like this, it's just the worst feeling in the whole wide world," Osgood told the Mercury News. "The past 24 hours have been the worst, because we just trusted this guy and we thought it was going to be OK."
Ticketmaster CEO Nathan Hubbard heard the story, and reached out to Osgood, offering her four free tickets to the big game. She was also offered a free ticket from the 49ers, meaning she, her boyfriend, and other family members will be able to attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
"My heart literally was in my throat; it was fluttering -- I was like, 'Oh my God, I can't believe this is happening.' I can't put into words how grateful I am," Osgood told the Mercury News.
Osgood filed a police report in Florida in an attempt to catch the scammer, who claimed to live in Boca Raton.
