Santa Clara, CA – San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver was arrested on felony charges Friday after allegedly fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run and threatening a witness with brass knuckles.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Culliver was charged with felony hit and run, felony reckless driving with injury, felony possession of brass knuckles, misdemeanor hit and run and misdemeanor driving on a suspended license after the incident Friday morning.
San Jose police said Culliver, 25, fled the scene after striking a bicyclist with his car and then ramming a witness's vehicle, according to the newspaper.
After the witness followed Culliver's car and attempted to block it from leaving, Culliver got out of his car and allegedly threatened the witness with brass knuckles, according to KTVU.
The bicyclist was treated for minor injuries and released, according to both reports.
Culliver was released from jail early Friday evening, KTVU reported. The 49ers said they were aware of the incident and were investigating.
The 49ers distanced themselves from Culliver last year after the cornerback made anti-gay comments during Super Bowl media day. Culliver later apologized.
He played all 16 games in his first two seasons for the 49ers and had two interceptions, but missed the 2013 campaign due to a torn ACL.
