Virginia Tech junior quarterback Logan Thomas announced Tuesday, on the final day for underclassmen to declare for the NFL Draft, that he will return for his senior season.

The 6-foot-6, 260-pounder, who was projected as a potential first-round draft pick prior to the season, completed just 51.3 percent of his throws and threw 18 touchdowns versus 16 interceptions this past fall.

Although he led Virginia Tech in rushing with 524 yards and nine touchdowns, Thomas' average junior season was surprising, especially after leading the Hokies to a BCS bowl just one year ago and earning 2011 second-team All-ACC honors.

The Hokies finished the 2012 campaign with a disappointing 7-6 record after fighting to qualify for the program's 20th consecutive bowl game, the Russell Athletic Bowl, before defeating Rutgers in overtime, 13-10.

Thomas, however, was just 15-of-39 for 193 yards with two interceptions and one touchdown in that contest.
