MIAMI – Florida International coach Richard Pitino says he talks to his father about basketball every day.
Their chat after going head-to-head on Wednesday night could be particularly interesting.
It'll be Richard Pitino vs. Rick Pitino, son vs. father in Louisville, Ky., when FIU (3-4) travels to meet the fifth-ranked Cardinals (9-1).
This meeting was scheduled in June, a few months after Richard Pitino left his father's Louisville coaching staff to take over at FIU.
For Rick Pitino, it'll be game No. 874 as a collegiate head coach. For Richard Pitino, it'll be game No. 8.
Richard Pitino says he thinks his dad is "the greatest coach out there" and that he's proud to emulate some of his father's style into his own coaching.
