Atlanta, GA – The Atlanta Braves placed pitcher Jonny Venters on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a left elbow impingement and recalled pitcher Luis Avilan from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Venters hurled two-thirds of an inning in Atlanta's 5-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday and served up a solo home run to Jeff Baker.
After giving up just three home runs in 164 games over the past two seasons, Venters has already allowed six in just 40 appearances this year.
The 27-year-old lefty sports a 3-3 record with a 4.45 earned run average this season.
Avilan, 22, has never pitched in the majors.
