Washington, DC – Cappie Pondexter netted 25 points, while Leilani Mitchell chipped in 16 as the New York Liberty downed the Washington Mystics, 76-70, on Friday.
Pondexter was 9-of-13 from the field while Mitchell nailed four three-pointers for the Liberty, who have won three straight following an 0-5 start. Essence Carson added 13 points and Kia Vaughn tallied 10.
Crystal Langhorne poured in 24 points while Michelle Snow registered a double- double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for Washington, which has dropped five of its first six contests to begin the year.
The Liberty got off to fast start and essentially coasted the rest of the way, outscoring the Mystics 35-13 in the opening frame. New York shot 61.9 percent from the floor while outrebounding Washington, 11-3, in the quarter.
