(Reuters) - The Texas Rangers made their first play of the off-season on Monday by exercising their $3.25 million club option on pitcher Colby Lewis for the 2012 Major League Baseball season just three days after losing the World Series.
The 32-year-old right-hander went 14-10 with a 4.40 earned run average (ERA) in 32 starts last season and was 1-1 with a 3.04 ERA in the postseason.
"Colby's been a workhorse for us the last couple years, and you can't say enough about this guy's makeup," Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels told the team's website. "There's no one I would want on the mound, certainly in October."
In 2010, Lewis went 3-0 with a 1.71 ERA in the postseason before the Rangers lost the World Series to the San Francisco Giants.
