LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Defenceman Alec Martinez has agreed to a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings, avoiding an arbitration hearing.

The Kings didn't announce details of the contract Friday for Martinez, who cemented his spot on the Kings' blue line last season with a solid rookie campaign.

The 23-year-old Martinez scored 16 points in 60 games last season with the Kings, and his plus-11 rating was fifth in the NHL among rookie defencemen.

The Kings' arbitration hearing with Martinez was scheduled for July 27. Center Brad Richardson has the only arbitration case still pending for Los Angeles, and his hearing is slated for July 21.
