ST. LOUIS (Reuters) - Manager Tony La Russa will remain with the St. Louis Cardinals for another season after signing a new one-year contract, the team said on Monday.

La Russa, 66, the franchise's most successful manager in terms of wins, has signed the deal which has a mutual option of an extension for the 2012 season.

"We are excited to have Tony returning and are looking forward to 2011," said Cardinal's chairman and chief executive officer Bill DeWitt Jr., on the team's website (stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com).

"He has guided the team in one of the greatest eras in Cardinals history and we are pleased he will continue that leadership next season."

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed for the former Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics manager, who has the third most victories for a manager in the Major Leagues.
