This Week on #MediaBuzz

Donald Trump said that he would like better relationships with the media and that he uses words like “vermin” and “poisoning of the blood” to drive press coverage of him. He also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is “probably” responsible for Russian activist and dissident Alexei Navalny’s death and that he was pressuring the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) by saying he would encourage Russians to “do whatever the hell they want” if fellow NATO countries did not contribute more money on defense spending. On Congress voting overwhelmingly this week to ban Tik Tok unless the company’s Chinese owner sells it off, Trump said he opposes a ban – a reversal of his previous position as president – citing concerns over “freedom of speech” and that any Congressional action should also include Facebook. He denied knowing that billionaire investor Jeff Yass, whom he’d recently met with, owned a 15% stake in Tik Tok owner company Byte Dance. When asked about a post on his social media website Truth Social saying that “massive fraud” in the 2020 presidential election “allows for the termination of all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution”, he insisted that he was “not saying” that he wanted to void the Constitution when talking about elections. Regarding a debate challenge against presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, Trump said that he would be open to debating Joe Biden on Media Buzz and drew a contrast between issuing that challenge and skipping the GOP primary debates because he “didn’t want to be shouted at by 12 people that have absolutely no chance of being elected.” Concerning Israel, Trump said that U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer “just said essentially that [Israeli Prime Minister] Bibi Netanyahu should take a walk” in his House floor speech. Trump also said that the four criminal indictments against him, including charges from Fulton County, Georgia district attorney Fani Willis alleging he tried to overturn certified 2020 presidential election results, are not hurting his poll numbers because he has “a voice” that allows him to “explain to people… how rigged this whole thing is.” He finally said that he supports a ban on abortion after 16 weeks (but did not fully commit to that time frame) and that Republicans must embrace the three abortion exceptions of rape, incest, and life of the mother: “You have to go with your heart. But beyond that, you also have to get elected.”
