A high school senior from Iowa collapsed on the mat during a wrestling tournament Saturday and later passed away.

Austin Roberts, of Spencer, Iowa, was competing in the championship match of the 220-pound weight division at the Spencer Invitational Wrestling Tournament when he collapsed as he and his opponent  were walking back to the center of the mat, KTIV reported.

On Sunday, Spencer High School confirmed Roberts’ death on Facebook, after he was taken to the hospital. The cause of death has not been released.

“This is a time for grieving and providing support for Austin's family, the wrestling team family, our school system, and the entire community of Spencer,” Terry Hemann, superintendent at Spencer Community Schools said in the Facebook post.

The school is offering grief counseling and classes will be in session on Monday.

According to KTIV, Roberts was ranked sixth in Class 3A this season and placed eighth at the Class 2A state tournament last year.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Roberts’ family pay for medical and funeral expenses.
