There is no more Hope for Dancing With the Stars.
The US women's national soccer team goalkeeper Hope Solo and her dance partner Max Chmerkovskiy were sent home Tuesday night after they had the lowest combined judges and viewers votes on the competition’s semi final results show.
Despite getting the boot, Solo joked saying now she can focus on her performance on the pitch instead of on the dance floor.
“I’m going to go back and instead of trying to win the mirror ball trophy I’m going to try to win a gold medal,” Solo said.
“This competition is one of the hardest competitions I’ve ever been a part of,” she added. “I’m grateful. It was an amazing opportunity.”
With Solo eliminated from the competition, J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff were safe as the two saw themselves in the bottom two for the first time in the competition thanks in part to Martinez’s ankle injury which affected his performance.
Upon learning that he was going to the finals next week, Martinez took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
Talking to reporters backstage, the army vet-turned-actor and now dancer said he was “frustrated” with his hurt ankle.

“The expectation was still high for myself despite the injury,” Martinez told Access Hollywood.

Smirnoff felt bad that Solo was booted off, but not too bad.
“As much as we don’t want anyone to go home, we’re kind of really glad we made the final!” Smirnoff told E! News after the show.
The entertainment show later posted on their website that Solo was “distraught” and “in tears” to the point that she could not hold interviews about the elimination, although she was all smiles during the taping.
Still, she thanked her “dear friends and family” for the support. It was clear that the ongoing tension between her and Chmerkovskiy was still as ever present as it had been from day one.
“I’m sorry,” Chmerkovskiy told Solo. “I wish I could have been better for you.”
“It is what it is,” he added. “It’s been an amazing journey.”
Joining Martinez and Smirnoff in the finals are Ricki Lake and Derek Hough and Rob Kardshian with his partner Cheryl Burke.
