Hundreds of flights, schools cancelled in Dallas-Fort Worth area amid hailstorm threat: report

Hundreds of flights were suspended and schools were canceled in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Wednesday amid a brewing storm that threatened to bring baseball-sized hail, according to weather officials.
The hailstorm was originally forecasted to arrive in two waves: the first around 5 p.m. and the second between 9 and 11 p.m. Although the first wave did not arrive as expected, the warning had cleared every major highway of traffic, The Dallas Morning News reported. Weather officials said the second wave is expected to arrive as originally forecasted.
Southwest Airlines suspended operations at Dallas Love Field between 6 and 10 p.m., impacting about 100 flights, while other airlines were expecting delays or cancellations Wednesday evening, an airline spokesman told The Morning News.

In Dallas and surrounding counties, a severe thunderstorm remains in effect until early Thursday morning, with winds expected to reach 70 mph or greater, the report said.
Multiple schools districts and universities in the area have either closed early or canceled classes altogether ahead of severe weather, KXAS-TV reported.
