PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – For a second straight day, partisans of a Haitian political faction threw rocks at police and burned tires to demand "fair" election results, which they insist would put their candidate in the presidency.

Police in riot gear dispersed the demonstrators from the Lavalas Family faction with volleys of tear gas shortly after they gathered Tuesday in Port-au-Prince.

Authorities later prevented a second Lavalas rally from starting.

Haiti's presidential election redo went off relatively smoothly Sunday. But there are pockets of political clamoring, particularly by the Lavalas party founded by ex-President Jean Bertrand Aristide.

Twenty-seven presidential candidates were on the ballot. No official results are expected until Sunday at the earliest.

Over 1,000 Lavalas partisans marched Monday in Port-au-Prince carrying placards showing Lavalas candidate Maryse Narcisse before being scattered by police.
