Northern Nicaragua rattled by 6.1 magnitude quake

MANAGUA, Nicaragua – An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 has shaken the northwestern coast of Nicaragua not far from the Honduran border.

The U.S. Geological survey said the quake's epicenter was 17 kilometers (10 miles) east of Puerto Morazan, Nicaragua.

The USGS said it had a depth of 10 kilometers and struck late Thursday night.
