Veterinarians have since named the dog “Arrow” and the CC RezQs animal rescue organization says it has found a foster home to care for her while she recovers, CBC reports.

“Arrow is considered the luckiest dog in the world! The arrow missed her spinal cord by 9 millimetres!” said a Facebook post by the group. “There are broken pieces of vertebrae floating around still, so not out of the woods yet. Vet team was able to clean a lot of hair and 'gunk' out of the large wound.”

The dog is believed to be a stray and may need further surgery to remove fragments of vertebrae.
