NEW DELHI – India's army chief says a Pakistani attack in which two Indian soldiers were killed in the disputed Kashmir region was premeditated.
Gen. Bikram Singh told reporters India reserved the right to retaliate at "time and place of its choice" for the Jan. 8 attack. Pakistan says it was responding to a previous Indian attack.
The violence killed two soldiers on each side with both the countries accusing each other of violating a 2003 ceasefire and summoning their envoys to lodge protest.
Singh spoke hours before Indian and Pakistani military commanders were due to meet to defuse tensions along the Line of Control, which forms the de facto border between the two countries.
Singh asked his troops to be "aggressive and offensive in the face of provocation and fire" from Pakistan.
