A man is in custody after police say he tried to ram a Maryland Natural Resources Police officer in a park.

Baltimore County police say he turned himself in Wednesday. He hasn't been officially charged.

Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson says the confrontation happened Tuesday night at Patapsco Valley State Park near Catonsville as the officer checked to make sure all visitors had left. The officer approached an SUV on foot. That's when Thomson says the driver reversed and hit the officer's truck. She says the driver turned around to ram the officer, and as the officer stepped out of the way, his arm went through the driver's side window.

She says the officer fired, but the SUV took off.

The officer was treated at a hospital and released.
