A Florida deputy shot and killed a man accused of pointing a gun at deputies.

The Florida Times-Union reports that fatal shooting occurred Sunday night in Nassau County.

Sheriff Bill Leeper says deputies responded to a 911 call where dispatchers heard gunshots in the background. Leeper says 27-year-old Jeremy Lindsey pointed a gun at the deputies who arrived, and they shot him.

That incident followed a Friday night shooting in Fernandina Beach that the sheriff's office says stemmed from a hit-and-run crash that led to a car chase.

Leeper says a deputy fatally shot Edward Courtenay, who was in the process of ramming another car that he'd already hit twice.

Officials say the suspects and deputies in both shootings are white. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
