PORT HURON, Mich. – In a story May 8 about the remains of a sailor killed at Pearl Harbor being returned to Michigan for burial, The Associated Press reported erroneously the date of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the date that graveside military honors will be held for the sailor. The attack was Dec. 7, 1941, not Dec. 8, and the graveside honors will be Saturday, May 20, not this Saturday.

The remains of a Michigan sailor killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor will be returned to Port Huron, Michigan, for burial on his family's cemetery plot
PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) — The remains of a Michigan sailor killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor will be returned to Port Huron, Michigan, for burial on his family's cemetery plot.
Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home released a statement Monday saying the Navy recently identified the remains of Fred M. Jones. The 30-year-old was aboard the USS Oklahoma during the attack on Dec. 7, 1941.
The funeral home says his escorted casket will arrive at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and graveside military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy on May 20 at Lakeside Cemetery in Port Huron.
A grandniece of Jones, Sue Nichols of Burton, Michigan, tells the Port Huron Times Herald the family is grateful for the discovery of his remains.
