The oldest living firefighter to have served in New York City celebrated his 103rd birthday, and the FDNY celebrated Tuesday with a Facebook post of congratulations.

Richard Krempler served the department for more than 20 years before retiring, according to the FDNY.

His first assignment was Manhattan's Engine 31, in 1937. He was just 24 then.

"Retired Firefighter Krempler celebrated his 103rd birthday surrounded by loved ones in Florida," the department wrote.
