BATON ROUGE, La. – The daughter of an 82-year-old Louisiana woman who died from a blood infection caused by severely infected bedsores will stand trial Aug. 28 on a manslaughter charge.
The Advocate (http://bit.ly/2mBuZ8p ) reports state District Judge Mike Erwin set 55-year-old Joleslie Looney's trial date Monday.
Looney and her daughter, 20-year-old Lauren Looney, were Bessie Looney's primary caregivers in 2014 when the woman was found dead in their Baton Rouge home. Authorities say she was found naked, in a wheelchair, sitting in feces and covered with bedsores.
Lauren Looney also is charged with manslaughter. Her next court date is April 13.
The Looneys told police they were aware of Bessie Looney's condition but said it did not appear to be severe to them.
A manslaughter conviction carries up to 40 years in prison.
