The Latest on the wildfire burning north of San Francisco (all times local):

7:50 a.m.

A wildfire that erupted amid hot, dry conditions and gusty winds in Sonoma County north of San Francisco sent residents fleeing from their homes.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the blaze in rural Cloverdale has charred about 1,500 acres (607 hectares), or more than 2 square miles (5.2 square kilometers), of timber and dry brush.

Fire spokesman Paul Lowenthal said Sunday that about 90 people in 36 homes were under evacuation orders or advisories, and that the fire was threatening the Geysers geothermal field.

Firefighters battling the blaze in steep terrain braced for another day of temperatures in the high 90s and strong winds on Monday.

The fire is 20 percent contained.
