Ahmad Rahami, the suspect accused of planting bombs in New York City and New Jersey, is currently unconscious and unable to speak with FBI case agents about the attacks, two law enforcement sources close to the investigation tell Fox News.
As of Wednesday afternoon Rahami is incapacitated following multiple surgeries for the gunshot wounds he sustained during a shootout with Linden, New Jersey police officers on Monday, Fox News is told. Doctors were treating him at a hospital in Newark after police reportedly shot him 10 times.
Fox News is also told that FBI agents are near his hospital bed waiting for Rahami to wake up so they can begin questioning.
Additionally, two law enforcement sources confirm to Fox News that Rahami’s wife, Asia Bibi Rahami, is cooperating with authorities. Fox News is told that she voluntarily gave a statement to U.S. officials in the United Arab Emirates. These sources tell Fox News she left the country in June and is slated to travel back to the United States imminently.
Federal prosecutors in New York and New Jersey issued criminal complaints Tuesday evening charging Ahmad Khan Rahami in weekend bombings in both those states. Attorney General Loretta Lynch says the Justice Department intends in the "near future" to bring Rahami to New York to face charges in the Saturday night bombing there, which wounded at least 31 people.
