CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Tennessee man is in custody after police say he refused to stop for a police officer, crashed his car and fled, leaving behind his 7-year-old daughter.
The Leaf-Chronicle (http://leafne.ws/2bAJEKs) reports the incident happened Wednesday in Clarksville. According to an arrest warrant, an officer pulled Wilfredo Valcarcel Ortiz over for a brake lights infraction. As the officer approached, Valcarcel Ortiz sped away, the arrest warrant states. The 26-year-old drove into a park where the car flipped over and crashed. A witness saw Valcarcel Ortiz and a girl exit the vehicle. Then, he fled, ditching the girl, who was identified as his daughter.
Valcarcel Ortiz was arrested later and charged with aggravated child abuse, driving on a revoked license and evading arrest.
The Clarksville Police Department said the child suffered minor injuries.
