A surveillance video captures the fatal shooting of a suspect who pointed what appears to be a gun at a sheriff's deputy in a New Orleans suburb.

The shooting happened late Tuesday at a warehouse of The Times-Picayune. The video posted on the Nola.comThe Times-Picayune website shows the suspect pointing what looks like a firearm toward the deputy before being shot (http://bit.ly/2aeaKnG).

Jefferson Parish Newell Normand's office says in a news release that the shooting happened as deputies responded to a call about suspicious activity near a new car storage lot.

Deputy David Dalton pursued one suspect to the warehouse. The sheriff's office said the suspect was armed with a 9 mm handgun when Dalton shot him.

The sheriff's office plans to hold a 3 p.m. news conference to discuss the shooting.

A suburban New Orleans sheriff has called a news conference to discuss the overnight shooting death of a suspect by a deputy.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand's office called the conference for Wednesday afternoon. He says the shooting happened Tuesday night in Metairie (MEH'-tur-ee). Deputies were responding to calls about suspicious activity on the Interstate 10 service road near a new car storage lot. They spotted a man running toward a garage in a nearby building.

A sheriff's news release says the suspect pointed a gun at a pursuing deputy. The deputy, David Dalton, fired six shots.

The release says the suspect, so far identified only as a black male, was armed with a 9 mm handgun. Dalton's race was not immediately known.

Deputies searching the vehicle lot discovered a new pickup truck on blocks with two wheels missing.

A sheriff's office says a man has been shot and killed by deputies outside New Orleans.

WWL-TV (http://bit.ly/2auNFD2 ) reports Jefferson Parish deputies were responding Tuesday evening to reports of an alleged robbery in Metairie. Witnesses reported that two men were "rolling something shiny" down the street. The two men were later seen running toward an Interstate 10 service road.

Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies responded and reported seeing a man going into a newspaper warehouse. A deputy followed the man into the garage and told authorities the man turned around and pointed a gun at him.

The deputy fired six shots, one of which was fatal. The Sheriff's Office says the man was armed with a 9mm handgun.

Neither the name of the deceased man nor the name of the deputy has been released.
