No injuries or damage were reported Thursday after a magnitude-4.8 earthquake shook California's North Coast.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake hit 12 miles southeast of the town of Bayside shortly after 4 p.m. local time.

In the nearby town of Eureka, the Times-Standard newspaper reported that the temblor shook the paper's office for several seconds. The paper added that no emergencies related to the quake were reported in the following 15 minutes, nor were there any tsunami warnings.

Eureka, a town of approximately 27,000 people, is located approximately 270 miles north of San Francisco.
