TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa police are investigating the death of a 64-year-old man who became ill after fighting an officer who used pepper spray and a stun gun while serving a misdemeanor warrant for jaywalking.
Police Chief Chuck Jordan said Friday that Ollie Lee Brooks died at a hospital after officers chased him down a flight of stairs, then tackled and handcuffed him.
Two officers said they discovered crack cocaine and a pipe in Brooks' motel room while executing the warrant last Saturday. Police said one officer used pepper spray and a stun gun after Brooks resisted arrest. Both officers returned to duty Thursday. The department says they used proper force.
Police said a medical examiner's preliminary report suggests Brooks had an enlarged heart and that exertion may have contributed to his death.
