At least 22 people were rescued from a sinking boat Wednesday in the Chesapeake Bay, authorities said.

Maryland Natural Resources police said authorities received a distress call from a boat at about 6 p.m. Rescuers were in the waters off Bloodsworth Island to save the passengers shortly after.

According to CBS Baltimore, officials said the boat struck something submerged in the water which caused it to sink.

Three people who were on the boat were hospitalized. The captain of the boat was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury and two others were transported to UM Shore Medical Center at Easton, Fox Baltimore reported.

The conditions of the victims weren’t immediately released.

No other details were released.
