Parents making their 17-year-old daughter’s bed on Monday evening found a dead baby boy under the covers, and California police are investigating whether a crime occurred, according to a Chula Vista Police statement.
The unidentified teenage girl told authorities she did not realize she was pregnant until she gave birth in the bed.
The girl’s parents called emergency responders after they found the baby, who was not breathing. Paramedics could not revive him.
The baby appeared to have survived to full-term and weighed just under eight pounds, Lt. Fritz Reber told The San Diego Union-Tribune.
“The child appeared to have been born hours or days prior,” police said in a statement.
