A New Jersey police officer wrestled a man to the ground who said he wanted to die, stopping him from jumping off an interstate bridge.

Riverdale Police Sgt. Greg Bogert said Wednesday he was called Monday to respond to a man in distress on Interstate 287 and found him near a bridge on the highway.

Dashcam video from Bogert's cruiser shows him approaching the unidentified man, who then ran toward the edge of the bridge. Bogert is heard yelling, "Don't do it!" He chased the man and tackled him to the ground.

He says the man said his family died and he wanted to die. Bogert asked him what happened but the man broke down in tears.

He was taken to a nearby hospital.
