A pregnant woman was shot in the stomach in Chattanooga, Tenn. Tuesday morning, in the second shooting of its kind in two days, The Times Free Press reported.
The woman’s injury is “serious” and she was undergoing emergency surgery Tuesday afternoon, police said, though there’s no information on the condition of the child. Police did not name the woman. Her baby was due in about a month, a witness told The Free Press.
Chattanooga has faced a rash of recent violence, with eight shootings since Saturday.
The witness to Tuesday's shooting said there were six or seven gun shots, and that the woman was meeting with a man she knew. Another witness told a WRCB reporter that a car drove up to the woman and a man started shooting. Several people on the scene said the man flashed gang signs and had his music blaring before firing the shots.
At least one other person was injured during the shooting, and an SUV with several bullet holes in it was found parked in front of a nearby hospital. The occupant of the car, an unidentified male, was reportedly shot multiple times and was being evaluated, The Free Press reported.
Police are hunting for two men in connection to the incident, one driving a white Lexus SUV and the other in a gold 1996 Honda Accord.
On Monday night, a bullet struck 24-year-old Sharia Reynolds in the leg on Arlington Avenue. She was in a parked vehicle when she was shot and is expected to be okay, ABC9 reported. Jaumichael Hardy and Jacorey Owens were charged with attempted first degree murder and reckless endangerment in that case.
