A Philadelphia police officer who was shot while trying to stop a carjacking has been released from the hospital.

Officer James McCullough was released Monday night, a day after he was shot once in the left leg.

Police say the officer and his partner were flagged down Sunday night by a woman who reported being carjacked by two men at gunpoint.

The men fled on foot as officers approached. Police say as the officers pursued them, one man turned and shot McCullough.

Police say the man who didn't shoot was arrested nearby. The other man was arrested earlier Monday. Police say undercover narcotics officers spotted him, arrested him without incident and recovered a gun.
