Authorities say an Air Force airman from Maryland has died after extreme winds caused structural damage to the building in which he was working in Asia.

The Baltimore Sun reports (http://bsun.md/1Sdoa2L ) that Pentagon officials said Saturday that Airman First Class Nathaniel H. McDavitt died Friday from the injuries sustained in the incident. The 22-year-old from Glen Burnie was serving in Southwest Asia as part of the fight against the Islamic State group. His precise location was not given.

McDavitt was assigned to the 52nd Equipment Maintenance Squadron at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany. He finished basic training in Texas in 2014.

McDavitt's father told the newspaper that the family is not ready to make a statement.
