Rhode Island State Police say they're nearing the end of an investigation into dozens of allegations of sexual abuse at an elite Rhode Island boarding school, although they don't have a timetable for when it will be completed.

Maj. Joseph Philbin said Wednesday that police are trying to wrap up the investigation into St. George's School, near Newport.

The school has acknowledged failing to report abuse allegations going back decades.

Philbin would not say how many people had come forward.

He says the school has cooperated and has provided everything police required.

St. George's hired an independent investigator in January to look into sexual abuse by faculty, staff or students and to review the school's responses to reports of alleged abuse from 1960 to the present.
