The Philadelphia School District says an eighth-grade girl stabbed another eighth-grade girl with scissors at their elementary school.

District spokesman Fernando Gallard tells WPVI-TV (http://6abc.cm/1V1fJgv) the two girls got into a fight in the hallway at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cooke Elementary School, in the city's Logan section. It happened as students were entering school for the start of classes.

He says one girl stabbed the other in the arm and shoulder.

He says the injured 14-year-old student is conscious and alert, and her injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening.

The other student was taken into police custody at the school that serves grades K-8.

Police continue to investigate.
