A couple of volunteer firefighters in New Jersey are facing possible discipline for inadvertently violating department rules when they shared their wedding invitation on Facebook.

Paul Mellor and his fiancee Danielle Szep staged their firefighting coats with their last names stenciled on the back as props in their wedding invitation photo, which Szep posted to Facebook on March 17.

Mellor said Company 1 Chief Mike Colon called him to relay a message from Garfield Chief James Kovacs Sr. that Szep would be suspended if the post wasn't removed within an hour.

The volunteer department's rules ban the use of its property on social media, but the couple believes they shouldn't be punished. Mellor said Szep didn't know the protocol because it wasn't clearly explained.

Kovacs couldn't be reached for comment.
